What does my chapter becoming a member mean ?

Your chapter becoming a member means being a part of a national network and collaboration of students. We will provide support, advice, and objective suggestions to ensure your success.

How do we network with other organizations?

Organizations can have the ability to directly communicate with the leadership of other organizations and professionals through established group chats and through events/projects.

What fees, if any, are associated with a general chapter membership of NAFSA?

There are no fees to sign up for membership.

How long does my membership last within the organization?

It lasts up to one full year and must be renewed annually around summer time. Membership expires on August 31st every year. Sign up/renewal after May 1st shall count towards the following year. 

Examples:

  • registration done on January 10th, 2022 will expire on August 31st 2022. 
  • registration done on June 10th, 2022 will expire on August 31st 2023. 
  • registration done on September 10th, 2022 will expire on August 31st 2023.

What are some of the leadership opportunities in NAFSA?

As a student, you can join the National Executive Board which is a 1 year long commitment to impact thousands of members. See application link for more details. This is open to undergraduate and graduate students. 
We also offer 3 month renewable internships that our members can use to build their experience while building their network. See application link for more details. This is open to undergraduate and graduate students. 
For professionals, please email us at contact@nationalafsa.org for a list of open opportunities on one of the six Zones, Board of Director or Advisory Board. This is open to professionals from all experience levels based on the role.

Can only African students join NAFSA?

NAFSA is an organization open to anyone and everyone. We have a policy against any form of discrimination. Even though our organization focuses on the development of Africa and its people, anyone can join to learn more and contribute anyway they can.

How do I support the cause?

We appreciate every support we can get. This can vary from spreading the word to increase our membership, connecting us with organizations and/or individuals that we may partner with who align with our vision, joining our leadership team or donating to us.  
We are a 501(c)(3) registered organization EIN: 82-2181428, so your donation is tax deductible. You can donate via our PayPal Giving Fund link, mailing us a check or send us a CashApp using tag $NationalAFSA.

What is the primary form of contact from NAFSA?

We share most of our updates and resources via our newsletter to members. Some updates available to the general public are made available via our website and social media platforms.

Are there any volunteer opportunities?

Yes there are! We allow our members to have the option to assist in various projects and events being worked on to showcase their creativity and ingenuity. Contact us via email (neb@nationalafsa.org) for more information.

Can I join the organization even though I reside outside of the US?

Yes, you can definitely join the organization regardless of your location! We are a remote-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

How is NAFSA structured?

We have 4 distinct teams within NAFSA that all operate in tandem with one another to carry out the mission of the organization: zone committees, national executive board (NEB), board of directors, and the board of advisers.
