Support Somali Youth Through Virtual Mentorship and Innovation Workshops

The National African Student Association (NAfSA) is proud to lead a virtual mentorship and innovation series for Somali youth enrolled in a 12-week digital upskilling bootcamp. This initiative is part of our Youth Displacement and Tech Empowerment project in partnership with the International Council for Refugees and Immigrants (ICRIUS), Georgia State University, and the Atlanta Global Studies Center, with generous support from the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

We are inviting Atlanta-area students and professionals in Tech/STEM fields to serve as mentors and workshop facilitators to guide and inspire Somali youth (ages 18–25) who are building digital, entrepreneurial, and career-readiness skills. This is a powerful opportunity to share your knowledge, grow your leadership, and help youth navigate paths to economic empowerment and social change.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Mentor small groups of Somali youth in two monthly virtual sessions
  • Help participants connect their bootcamp learning to real-world careers, entrepreneurship, and innovation
  • Co-lead hands-on Hackathon-style workshops that challenge youth to present and pitch their ideas
  • Pay it forward by contributing to a global, youth-led movement for change

Logistics

  • Mentorship Sessions: Two 1-hour sessions per month
    • One session led by collegiate mentors
    • One session led by professional mentors
  • Workshops/Hackathons: Two 3-hour collaborative events (late February and mid-April)
    • Led jointly by student and professional mentors

This is not only a mentorship opportunity- it’s a mutual learning exchange and a chance to help youth visualize and realize their future in tech, business, and social impact.
